Keep a revision error log you can use
QUICK REFERENCE
An error log records a mistake and the next practice task it suggests. A score alone does not tell you what to revisit. Keep the original question, your answer, the checked correction and a small action you can try again. You do not need a complicated spreadsheet to start.

When to use this
Use this after a practice question, worked problem or marked assignment when you want to decide what to practise next. Use your assigned source or verified marking guidance for the correction.
Know these three terms
Knowledge gap
A fact or concept you could not explain from the approved material.
Application gap
You recognised an idea but did not use it correctly in the question.
Question-reading issue
Your answer missed a condition, instruction or part of the task.
A practical way to do it
Save enough context
Record the question or a source reference, including the condition you missed. A note saying “question 4 wrong” will be hard to use when the original worksheet is elsewhere.
Check the correction
Use the assigned source or marking guidance. If the answer is disputed, label it unresolved. Do not copy an AI explanation into the log as a settled correction without checking that it matches the source.
Choose a targeted retry
Make the next action small and relevant to the mistake. Explain the distinction in your own words, solve a changed example or answer a related question. After the retry, note what is still difficult rather than treating one correct answer as proof of mastery.
At a glance
| Record | Weak entry | Useful entry |
|---|---|---|
| Mistake | I was careless. | I ignored the instruction to compare both options. |
| Correction | Read the answer. | The response needs one relevant difference and evidence for each option. |
| Retry | Revise everything. | Answer a new comparison question using the same source. |
A small example
Fictional example: a student accurately describes one workshop rule but the question asks how two rules differ. The log identifies the missing comparison, points to both source lines and sets a new two-rule comparison as the retry. The entry avoids turning a single missed instruction into a claim about the student’s ability.

Check before moving on
- The correction has an identifiable source.
- The reason for the mistake is specific enough to act on.
- The retry tests the missing skill or distinction.
- Unresolved answers stay marked as unresolved.
Common questions
Do I need to log every mistake?
Start with errors that repeat, reveal a gap or affect an important part of the task. If logging everything consumes the whole session, keep a smaller set and leave time to practise.
Can AI identify why I was wrong?
It can suggest possibilities from your answer and the source. Treat them as suggestions. Check whether the explanation fits what you actually did, then choose the next practice task yourself.
