Use AI to clarify real experience and match relevant evidence to a job description. Do not let it invent qualifications, achievements or employment dates.
A stronger CV makes your actual contribution easier to understand. Start with a factual record of responsibilities and examples before asking for polished wording.
A practical workflow.
Build an evidence list
Write your roles, dates, tasks, tools and specific contributions. Include genuine projects or transferable experience where relevant. Leave out sensitive client details.
Read the role carefully
Identify the requirements you can support with evidence. Ask AI to group matching experience and flag gaps without pretending you meet every requirement.
Revise one section
Request concise bullet points using only your evidence. If a result has no verified number, describe it accurately without adding a percentage.
Check every claim
Review dates, titles, skills and qualifications line by line. Keep wording you can explain confidently in an interview and adapt the format to the application instructions.

A few useful answers.
Can AI improve a CV with little experience?
Use real coursework, projects, volunteering or responsibilities that demonstrate relevant skills. Describe what you did rather than inventing a job title.
Should I add keywords from the job description?
Use relevant terms naturally when your experience supports them. Repeating terms without evidence does not make a truthful application stronger.
PUT THE GUIDE TO WORK
ChatGPT prompts for resume tailoring, without inventing experience
A useful tailored resume makes relevant experience easier to find. It does not manufacture a perfect match. Start with the actual job description and a private, factual record of your work; remove contact details before sharing either with a tool. The examples below show how to turn that record into clear bullets, a focused summary and a final evidence check.
Match requirements to evidence before rewriting
Highlight the role’s responsibilities, essential qualifications and tools. Beside each one, write a specific example from your work, education or a personal project. Mark an empty row as a gap. If a role requests SQL and you have only used spreadsheets, keep that distinction visible. A keyword belongs in your resume when it describes something you can explain and demonstrate.
Choose the bullet because it helps the reader
A strong bullet gives enough context to understand your contribution: what you did, how you did it and what happened. A result can be qualitative, such as a clearer handover or a completed launch. Add numbers only when you have a trustworthy record. Tailoring also means deleting a weak or irrelevant line, rather than making every bullet longer.
Open a card, copy the prompt and replace the brackets with your own details. Each card includes a follow-up and a check before you use the answer.
SITUATION 01 ↗
Build a requirement-to-evidence map
Find the genuine overlap before editing.
Open the prompt +
Compare this job description with my factual experience. Create a table: requirement, supporting evidence from my notes, strength of match, and gap. Quote the source wording for every match. Distinguish required qualifications from preferred ones. Do not infer skills, job titles, certifications or results that I have not supplied. Job description: [paste]. Experience: [paste].
Refine the next draft
Identify the three strongest supported matches and the two most important gaps. Suggest questions I should answer, rather than writing around missing evidence.
Before you use it
Check that every match points to something you actually did; remove the employer’s marketing copy.
SITUATION 02 ↗
Rewrite one bullet with a clear contribution
Make a responsibility specific without making it bigger.
Open the prompt +
Rewrite this resume bullet for [role]. Facts: [what I did, context, tools and verified outcome]. Original: [bullet]. Give three concise versions with different emphasis. Preserve my level of responsibility. Do not invent metrics, seniority, team size or commercial impact. Explain which supplied fact each version emphasizes.
Refine the next draft
Choose the clearest version for this actual job requirement: [requirement]. Flag every word that implies more ownership or certainty than my notes support.
Before you use it
Could you explain the action and outcome naturally if an interviewer asked?
SITUATION 03 ↗
Write a focused resume summary
Summarize the evidence instead of stacking adjectives.
Open the prompt +
Draft a two-sentence resume summary for [target role]. Use only these facts: [experience and two demonstrated strengths]. Keep it specific, plain and under 60 words. Avoid 'visionary', 'results-driven', unsupported expertise and promises. If the evidence is too thin, ask a question instead of filling the gap.
Refine the next draft
Remove any sentence that could describe almost any applicant. Replace it with a specific, supported detail, or shorten the summary.
Before you use it
The summary should agree with the employment dates, skills and bullets below it.
SITUATION 04 ↗
Audit the tailored resume against the source
Catch changes that quietly distort your history.
Open the prompt +
Audit this tailored resume against my original resume and evidence ledger. List added claims, altered dates or titles, unsupported numbers, changed ownership and repeated wording. Separate factual issues from style suggestions. Do not score my hiring chances. Original: [paste]. Draft: [paste]. Evidence: [paste].
Refine the next draft
Create a final checklist of only the unresolved factual questions. Show the exact draft wording to change and a supported alternative.
Before you use it
Read the full version yourself and verify dates, contact details, spelling and the employer’s actual instructions.
The examples below are original, illustrative edits using fictional situations. They show the checks to make, rather than promising what an AI tool will produce.

FIRST DRAFTHelped with onboarding.
AFTER CHECKINGPrepared the onboarding checklist and answered new starters’ questions about the weekly reporting process.
What changed
The revised line names two supplied actions. It does not claim a percentage improvement, a managerial role or a result that was never recorded.

Make the summary fit the work you can show
An original, fictional example. Use the method with your own evidence.
FIRST DRAFTHighly accomplished marketing expert with a proven track record of explosive growth.
AFTER CHECKINGMarketing assistant with experience scheduling newsletters and preparing campaign reports. Comfortable organizing content calendars and checking links before publication.
What changed
A realistic summary makes the applicant’s actual contribution visible. 'Expert' and 'explosive growth' would need evidence; neither was supplied.

- Start with the actual job description and your verified experience.
- Choose examples that show your actions and outcomes; label unknown numbers.
